Pre-election discussion evening in the municipality of Mežica on the topic “Youth space” – Youth Association KULTURNA KIBLA, Mežica
In the run-up to the local elections, the Youth Association Kulturna Kibla organized a discussion evening dedicated to addressing the lack of youth spaces in the Municipality of Mežica. The event brought together key local actors – the current mayor, opposing candidates, and representatives of various organizations – and opened a debate on the needs of young people, their social role, and the possibilities for establishing suitable youth infrastructure.
The discussion emphasized that young people need a space that would not be reserved for just one particular association but would be open to all youth in the municipality. Such a space should provide basic infrastructural conditions while at the same time enabling cultural, educational, and social activities. Participants pointed out that the voice of young people is often only heard during election campaigns, stressing that genuine intergenerational solidarity means the permanent and active involvement of youth in the development of the local community.
The association was founded as a response to the lack of cultural content for young people aged 14 to 30, with an emphasis on allowing young people to design and implement programs themselves. Although they support cooperation with existing associations, they highlight that current organizational activities are not always tailored to youth. In their advocacy, they therefore clearly articulate the position that young people are not a cost, but rather a crucial investment in the municipality’s future.
